چکیده

The development and evaluation of a new selective medium for Streptococcus pneumoniae is described. It is shown that the new medium (crystal violet-nalidixic acid-gentamicin agar:CVNG) is highly selective for Strep. pneumoniae in sputum specimens containing other organisms and is also sensitive, being only marginally inhibitory when compared to Columbia blood agar. The advantages of the medium in routine use are presented, based on 206 consecutive sputum specimens. It is concluded that CVNG medum is a useful adjunct to sputum bacteriology, especially in combination with digestion of the sputum samples by Cleland's reagent.

Cloning of Minor Autolysin of Streptococcus Pneumoniae

Abstract Background and Objective: Increased antibiotic resistant strains and inadequacy of current vaccines against pneumococcal infections necessitate the study of novel protein antigens. It seems that minor autolysin of Streptococcus pneumoniae may have antigenicity. Thus, we aimed at cloning its gene for the first time. Material and Methods: After DNA extraction of Streptococcus pneumoniae ...

The Identification of Streptococcus pneumoniae

Streptococcus pneumoniae, pneumococcus, is an important human pathogen that causes both serious invasive infections, such as septicaemia, meningitis and pneumonia, as well as mild upper respiratory infections. It also belongs to the normal nasopharyngeal microbial flora. The purpose of this study was to compare bacteriological phenotypic methods with genetechnological methods in the identificat...

In vitro Antibacterial Evaluation of Newly Synthesized Heterocyclic Compounds Against Streptococcus Pneumoniae

In recent years, the spread of drug-resistant strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae, as the most common causes of bacterial respiratory infections, threatens public health. Therefore, the use of new antimicrobial medicines to inhibit this pathogen is an urgent demand. In this research project, the inhibitory effects of thirty recently synthesized compounds including thiazole, thiazolidine, imidaz...

Immobilization-based isolation of capsule-negative mutants of Streptococcus pneumoniae.

The capsular polysaccharide (CPS) is the most important identified virulence factor of Streptococcus pneumoniae, a human pathogen of the upper respiratory tract. One limitation in studies of S. pneumoniae surface virulence factors is the lack of a reliable procedure for isolation of capsule-negative mutants of clinical strains. This paper presents an approach, based on the immobilization of pne...

Long-term survival of Streptococcus pneumoniae at room temperature on Dorset egg medium.

Forty-five isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae were inoculated on Dorset egg and supplemented Columbia agar base media, incubated overnight at 37 degrees C, and then kept at room temperature (RT; 21 degrees C) or 4 degrees C. Long-term viability was best at RT for both media, with all isolates remaining viable on Dorset egg medium for 44 days; viability was 90 and 57% on Columbia agar base med...
